MS Dhoni becomes Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year

Indian captain MS Dhoni won the Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year award for 2011, here on Wednesday night. However, conspicuously absent Dhoni and Suresh Raina received the honor on his behalf.

There were five finalists in the Indian Cricketer of the Year. Dhoni emerged as the winner and beating his teammates Sachin Tendulkar, Suresh Raina, Virender Sehwag and Ashwin R. The evaluation period of the awards was from 01 to 12, 2011.

Under-19 World Champion Chand was appointed captain Unmukt the Castrol Junior Cricketer of the Year while former India captain Ajit Wadekar won the Lifetime Achievement Award at Castrol Cricket.
A trophy and a check was given to all award winners. Dhoni and Rs checks Wadekar has five lakhs while winners Chand and another received two lakhs rupees each.
There were also special awards, which give Tendulkar to complete 100 international centuries earlier this year. Yuvraj Singh was honored with a special award for his Man-of-the-series performance in World Cup 2011. However, Yuvraj was not present. Yuvraj was in New Delhi to receive the Arjuna Award by the President.
Recently retired Rahul Dravid won the Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year Test. Tendulkar also won the Castrol India batsman of the year award.
Offspinner R Ashwin was honored with Castrol India Bowler of the year (based on ODI and test performances only).
Tendulkar gave the award for Wadekar. Speaking afterwards, Tendulkar said: "It is truly an honor to present this trophy to Wadekar was a great coach, especially, is a great friend ..."
Later, after receiving their awards, Tendulkar said it was "incredible" to win the World Cup 2011 in Mumbai. He added that his record of 100 centuries would be broken.
"Records are made to be broken. Like my double hundred, it was broken. Hopefully this disc breaks another Indian (100 tons)," Tendulkar said.
Ashwin said that this award will cherish a lifetime. "I am honored to be here and very happy to receive the award (EAS) Prasanna.'m Going to cherish this moment all my life." Ashwin was handed the trophy by former EAS Prasanna offspin great.
Dravid, speaking after receiving the award, said the following. "The Castrol Awards have been a permanent feature with me for the last 13 years. These awards are special. This will have a place of honor in my home."
The Excellence Awards were instituted by Castrol Cricket Castrol in 1997 to recognize and honor the present, past and future of Indian cricket.
Since 2008, four new awards were introduced. This year, two more have been added (performance under pressure).
The winner of the biggest prize of the night was not present and there was no reason given by the organizers for captain Dhoni to miss the ceremony. Unlike Yuvraj, there was no video message clever wicketkeeper-batsman.
