One day captain of South Africa AB de Villiers has revealed his side's plan to
take advantage of lightweight England batting line-up in the upcoming
one-day series.
De Villiers feels England's recent one day success has obscured the lack of depth in their batting which can be exposed to the attack of a quality bowling of South Africa.
England have reached the top of the world rankings a day on the back of 10 wins in 2012, including a 4-0 series defeat in Australia.
But they will be without star batsman Kevin Pietersen after controversy text message that led to the omission of the template.
And while De Villiers believes England is a "wonderful" team is confident that South Africans have enough quality players who beat their hosts from pole position for the second time in quick succession.
South Africa ended the reign of England as the highest ranked team thanks the test to screens dominant fast bowlers Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel and that will be unleashed again in the five-match one-day series which begins in Cardiff on Friday.
"I think it's a little light in the batting department, it might be something that we will attack. We'll see," said De Villiers on Thursday.
"They have Bresnan I think based on some reaching seven.
"The reason we are playing conservatively in the front is because they are a light dough. They do not go with the wicketkeeper at seven as most teams do.
"But do not think they have a plan. Allowed to play with the options and have a wonderful ODI side."
While De Villiers is in confident mood, knows that England has not lost a home series since 2009.
The wicketkeeper-batsman is also wary that Alastair Cook and Ian Bell created the crushing series win over Australia with some impressive displays and supports the Proteas will have to give their best to win the series.
"You have to play the situation and the conditions you're dealt. In England moves around a bit with the two new balls," he said.
"You can not go out there and hit every ball for six. You will be three or four down very quickly.
"Try to get through the new ball with minimum damage."
After beating England Test perch coveted De Villiers refused to take over the top of the 50-over format was the main goal of the five-match series.
South Africa will go top with a win in the series but Villiers is more concerned with developing a new image part.
"Definitely not our main goal.'re Here not focused on world rankings, certainly not as much as the Test series," he said.
"It would be nice to have that as a bonus, but we think we have other things to focus on.'re Trying to build a brand of cricket we want to play.
"We want to play attacking cricket well. I would think that we are a team that has done very well under pressure, so when put under pressure this series we will be looking to attack that's for sure."
England has had only four days to overcome their Test series defeat before returning to action in Cardiff.
But Captain Cook welcomed a number of new names on the team, De Villiers believes England will not suffer a hangover test.
"That's not going to be huge, maybe a little bit of a factor.'s The same situation in which we find a new team, look at Cook," he said.
"They will feel refreshed and revitalized. Their ODI team is a totally different unit and I can see that it takes a lot of scars Test series.
"Not just a little bit mental factor but if we do not lose that momentum right away tomorrow."
