Host Sri Lanka on Thursday included Akhila Dhananjaya range newcomer in a 15-man squad for next month's World Twenty20, while recalling spinner Ajantha Mendis unorthodox.
Dhananjaya, a 19-year-old off-spinner who has not played first-class cricket, was selected after taking seven wickets in four matches of the current Sri Lankan Premier League Twenty20 competition.
Mendis played for Sri Lanka in South Africa in January after being sidelined by a back injury for the home games against England, Pakistan and India this year.
Mendis bowls leg-spin with one finger-flicking action, has taken 40 wickets in 21 Twenty20 international.
Dilshan Munaweera and Dhananjaya are two newcomers in the team.
The veteran batsman Kumar Sangakkara and Nuwan Kulasekara seamer, who were injured during the limited-overs series against India last month, were included subject to the approval of the aptitude tests, Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement.
Sri Lanka drawn with South Africa and Zimbabwe in Group C of the preliminary league, with two teams advancing to the next round.
The host take on Zimbabwe in opening match of the tournament in Galle, on September 18.
