After
India's dismal performance in Test cricket in the last year, none of
the Indian cricketers have come to test team of the year the CPI, which
has been collected on the basis of the performances of cricketers 4th International August 2011 to August 6, 2012.
Six countries are represented in the 12-man line-up and Dale Steyn South Africa has won a place in the ICC Test Team of the Year for the fifth consecutive year. It is the third consecutive year that South African Hashim Amla and Jacques Kallis and Kumar Sangakkara Sri Lanka feature on the side, while England, Alastair Cook and Stuart Broad are second consecutive year.
Australia captain Michael Clarke was named as captain.
ICC chief executive, David Richardson said: "Those selected can be proud of its achievements and well deserves the recognition they receive as great cricketers of his era.
"The quality of Test cricket played throughout the year has been exceptional and I do not envy the selectors in their task of selecting the best. Congratulations to those who have. They make a formidable team."
The team was selected by a specially appointed jury chaired by West Indian batting legend Clive Lloyd. "It is always difficult to decide on the test team for many worthy candidates to consider on the basis of interpretations between 4 August 2011 and August 6, 2012. The team once again has a strong batting line-up, while Bowlers are a difficult combination of speed and spin that could fire a line-up on any surface, "said Lloyd.
"The selection process was very difficult, with a long panel discussion between all top performance during the voting period and various combinations were considered.
"The selectors did use a lot of statistics of the period of observation, but also take into account all other factors like the opposition, pitch conditions, match situation etc. But when you have only 12 places to fill a large group of world class players, there will always be a few who will miss out.
"In the opinion of the expert panel was selected the best team based on performances over the past 12 months."
Lloyd was joined on the panel by former Sri Lankan batsman Marvan Attapatu, former England captain Clare Connor wife, former West Indies all-terrain and Carl Hooper Australia World, Cup winner Tom Moody. Statistics were available as a guide but not necessarily the overwhelming factor in the choices made.
The ICC Test Team of the Year is one of two teams selected by the ICC selection panel along with the ODI line-up that will be released one day before the ICC Awards. The awards ceremony of the ICC is now in its ninth year, and this year is being held in Colombo on September 15. Previous ceremonies were held in London (2004 and 2011), Sydney (2005), Mumbai (2006), Johannesburg (2007 and 2009), Dubai (2008) and Bangalore (2010).
