McGrath to enter Hall of Fame

Legendary Australian bowler Glenn McGrath will be inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame during the third and final Test between Australia and Sri Lanka that starts at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday.

McGrath will be the third cricketer after Enid Bakewell of England and Brian Lara of the West Indies to be inducted in 2012-13, according to an ICC statement.

The statement also read, "Glenn McGrath will be the 68th male member of the Hall of Fame and joins fellow 2012-13 inductees West Indian Brian Lara and England's Enid Bakewell in being recognised by the ICC and the living members of the Hall of Fame."

Lara and Bakewell were inducted into the Hall of Fame during the ICC awards in September. McGrath has the honour of been inducted at the SCG, his home ground. A fourth and final inductee will be announced next year.

McGrath has played 124 Test for Australia from 1993 to 2006. He has picked up 563 wickets at an average of 21.64, more than any seam bowler present or past. He has also played 250 ODIs for Australia, picking up 381 wickets at an average of 22.02.

He was also part of the squad that won three consecutive World Cups in 1999, 2003 and 2007. He holds the record for taking the maximum wickets in World Cups with 71. He also has the best haul in ODIs at the World Cup when he picked up 7/15 against Namibia at Pietermaritzburg in 2003.

McGrath has said that he is honoured that he has been inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.

"I am looking forward to the ceremony on January 04th. I will celebrate it with not only my family and friends, but also with all the people present at the SCG as this is my home away from home."
