Member of Parliament Sachin Tendulkar has opened its entries in the Rajya Sabha with a letter asking the government to concentrate on perfecting new Indian talents in sports, especially in schools and colleges.
Sachin, who was nominated to the Upper House earlier this year in what became a much-debated move, he addressed his letter to both Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal and Ajay Maken Minister of Sports. Sent last week, the two-page letter laments the abandonment of the sport in the educational institutions of the country, according to a senior official of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
The cricket legend is clearly taking his role as a legislator seriously. He has reportedly said he would like to work closely with the government to integrate sport into the educational system and their suggestions include a roadmap for a complete review of the sports infrastructure in the college and university level.
Sachin suggests that participation in sports should be made compulsory and course curriculum should include more sports-related activities.
Kapil Sibal reportedly excited and invited the batting ace to make a detailed presentation, after which the proposal will be on the integration of sport with education examined by CBSE and NCERT (EXPAND), the official said.
