Australia thrash India by nine wickets

Australia thrashed India by nine wickets in their World Twenty20 Super Eight match in Colombo on Friday.

India's below-par 140-7 score was hardly challenging for Australian openers Shane Watson (72 off 42 balls) and David Warner (63 not out), who put on 133 runs in 13.3 overs before Watson was out.

They crossed the target with 31 balls to spare.

Earlier, Australia's pace attack led by Watson demolished the Indians, who won the toss at the R Premadasa Stadium.

Watson, the tournament's leading wicket-taker, took three wickets for 34 runs to leave India's top order in utter disarray especially as they decided to leave out Virender Sehwag to play five bowlers.

Even Virat Kohli (15) had no answer against some quality pace bowling which saw Pat Cummins take two wickets and Michell Starc one.

By the time Yuvraj Singh (8) departed, the score was 70-3.

Irfan Pathan made highest 31 off 30 balls in the uninspiring total. Suresh Raina scored 26, Gautam Gambhir 17 and MS Dhoni 15.
