Unmukt Chand may lose a year in college for poor attendance

Days after being hailed as a hero for leading the India U-19 side to victory in the World Cup, cricketer Unmukt Chand is in an unenviable position, because you could lose one year of college because low attendance.
The rules of the University of Delhi require the student to have at least 33.3 percent in attendance at an academic session after all exemptions, but Unmukt, a student at the University of San Esteban, could not attend the number required tutorials because cricket commitments.
While the case is cricketer in the Delhi High Court, Principal of St. Stephen Thampu Valson said the administration is up to the University to decide since it is the varsity attendance rules.
Unmukt denied admit card for the examination of the second semester in May, but the judge intervened and asked the university to enable it to take the exams.
However, the 19-year-old would appear in only two of the four documents as long as the court's ruling was that it had already lost two. Their results, and therefore promotion, have been detained pending trial.
"I talked to my physical education teacher and the principal and are willing to help me in the next semester," said Unmukt.
"We never thought that something like this could happen to Unmukt. The matter should have been resolved without appeal. Should have been resolved in a friendly atmosphere," said his father Bharat Chand, a schoolteacher.
He said the matter was sub judice and now the Court will hear on September 16.
Thampu, meanwhile, said he had no control over the rules of the University, and only the government can make an exception.
Asked whether an exception can be made for a national talent as Unmukt, Thampu PTI said, "It depends on the university. Interesting thing is that all the blame on an issue that has absolutely no control over."
"You think I can spare the University policy?" He asked after alumni associations expressed support cricketer.
Former Indian cricketer and former students of St Stephens College Kirti Azad said it was unfair to punish a player who was representing the country.
"When I was representing my country, I used to draw attention to all that. Unmukt has won the World Cup for us. He is a good young man, he is getting good grades. Sanctioning it is really unfair on the part of college, "said Azad.
The mandates of the university that the student must pass 50 percent of all exams in both semesters combined to be promoted.
