South Africa selected bat first; England recalled Patel

After the false start in Cardiff, where the terrible summer followed, the prospects are better for the second one-day international and eventing is in sight. South Africa bat first in the match day / night, after AB de Villiers won the toss and said he expected the pitch to spin later.

England is also planning to play a turn after taking the decision to recall later Samit Patel in place of Chris Woakes unfortunate that awaits the opportunity to demonstrate their skills at the international level this season Friday after failure . Alastair Cook admitted that they played Woakes but the final appearance of the surface brought a change of heart.

Locals have also stuck with Ravi Bopara at number 4 despite his poor form since returning to action after his personal problems. He played for Monday Essex, Middlesex against the Lord, and made only 2, but recovered three windows and half pace is a valuable addition to Cook especially after leaving the seamer. However, there will have been a strong temptation to play in the form of Jonny Bairstow.

South Africa was the immersion in the local knowledge of Neil McKenzie, a current player Hampshire, and Imran Tahir about what to expect from the surface and in domestic cricket this season rotation has played a key role. There is also the factor of batting under lights in late season but any dew conditions could make it difficult fielding.

England Squad: 1 Alastair Cook (capt), 2 Ian Bell, 3 Jonathan Trott, 4 Ravi Bopara, 5 Eoin Morgan, 6 Craig Kieswetter (wk), 7 Samit Patel, 8 Tim Bresnan, 9 Graeme Swann, 10 James Anderson, 11 Steven Finn

South Africa Squad: 1 Graeme Smith, 2 Hashim Amla, 3 Dean Elgar, 4 AB de Villiers (capt & wk), 5 JP Duminy, 6 Faf du Plessis, 7 Ryan McLaren, 9 Wayne Parnell, 8 Robin Petersen, 10 Morne Morkel, 11 Lonwabo Tsotsobe
