Kevin Pietersen was left out of the squad for World Twenty20 England announced Tuesday that his exile from international cricket continued.
The South African-born batsman was the man of the tournament when England won the 2010 World Twenty20 in the Caribbean - the first time he had raised an important piece of the International Cricket Council covered.
However, it was removed from the England team that lost the third test against South Africa at Lord's by 51 runs on Monday after sending "provocative" text messages allegedly criticizing England Test captain Andrew Strauss, South African players.
Pietersen, who recently became available again for all international cricket after retiring from one-dayers, was also out of the squad for the next England one-day and Twenty20 series against South Africa from Cardiff on Friday.
England national selector Geoff Miller, explaining Pietersen omission from the one-day and Twenty20 squad to play South Africa, said: "The participation of Kevin Pietersen future is yet to be determined and was not considered for selection in any team."
The World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka starting next month, starting with England's defense of his title against Afghanistan on September 21.
Latest Twenty20 match saw England beat West Indies by seven wickets at Trent Bridge in June with Alex Hales, taking place the first game of the vacancy by Pietersen, making 99.
The 15-man squad announced Tuesday contains eight survivors of the festival 2010 including seamer Stuart Broad, now the captain, Graeme Swann off-spinner and wicket-keeper batsman Craig Kieswetter, who made 63 in the seven-wicket victory over Australia in Barbados.
Promising players like Jonathan Bairstow, who scored 95 and 54 in the absence Pietersen during the third test, Hampshire spinner Danny Briggs and Somerset batsman Jos Buttler also included.
"We are eager to begin the defense of our T20 world title next month," said the former England off-spinner Miller.
"We know it will take exceptional cricket to retain the trophy and that starts with the first match against Afghanistan," he added.
"This is a very balanced team that combines experienced players with some young talents who have done well, both internationally and domestically this season and they are all very excited about the challenges that await us in Sri Lanka."
Broad, an England regular in all three formats, has rested from the five 50-over one-day matches against South Africa with Miller saying this was in the best interests of both the player and the team.
Squad: Stuart Broad (capt), Jonny Bairstow, Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Danny Briggs, Jos Buttler, Jade Dernbach, Steven Finn, Alex Hales, Craig Kieswetter, Michael Lumb, Eoin Morgan, Samit Patel, Graeme Swann, Luke Wright.
