England spinner Graeme Swann has rested from the last three one-day internationals against South Africa, England and Wales Cricket Board said Wednesday.
Fellow off-break player James Tredwell has been called up as cover.
Swann is one of a select group of English players offered in all three international formats.
Officials are willing to manage the workload of Swann in light of an elbow injury for a long time, especially in England World Twenty20 title defense in Sri Lanka next month.
Swann was one of the best players in England, taking two of 50 in their 80-run defeat against South Africa in the second one-day international in Southampton on Tuesday, a result which gave the Proteas a 1-0 lead in the five-match series following non-washing results last week in Cardiff.
The series continues at the Oval on Friday.
