Bangladesh reached 164-3 on the second day of the
first Test against West Indies at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in
Dhaka on Wednesday.
Naeem Islam is batting on 27 and Shakib Al Hasan is 16 not out.
Flamboyant opener Tamim Iqbal was the last wicket before the close for a superb 72. The left-hander tried to pull Darren Sammy however he succeeded in getting caught at mid-on.
The Tigers made a spirited start with Tamim and Junaed Siddique hitting the new-ball bowlers Ravi Rampaul and Tino Best for fours at will.
But Rampaul gained his revenge when had Siddique (7) caught at second slip off a well-directed delivery that was too quick for him to get out of the way.
Shahriar Nafees then joined Tamim in a productive 63-run second-wicket stand that entertained the crowd at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
But Rampaul ended the show when Shahriar (31) tried to cut a ball that deserved to be left alone but the extra bounce caught the outside edge through to the wicketkeeper.
Earlier, West Indies declared their first innings at 527 for four wickets at tea.
The Caribbeans built their huge total on an unbroken 296-run fifth-wicket stand between Shivnarine Chanderpaul (203 not out) and Denesh Ramdin, who reached his third Test century (126 n.o).
Chanderpaul's double hundred, which was only his second in his career, equalled his highest Test score.
The pair resumed with the score on 361-4 and never looked in real trouble against the Bangladesh bowlers.
They went to lunch on 437-4.
In the second session, pacer Shahadat Hossain, who took one wicket on the opening day, did not bowl while Rubel Hossain, bowled just two overs and Tamim sent down only his fifth over in Tests.
Shakib was reduced to bowling flat and wide outside off stump. The tireless Shohag Gazi ended up sending down 47 overs without adding to his three wickets.
