Bangladesh continued to be on the receiving end of Marlon Samuels' career-first double Test century in Khulna on Friday.
Samuels, resuming on 109, eventually fell in the final session for a magnificent 260. Shivnarine Chanderpaul was batting on 109 as the West Indies extended their lead to 177 runs by reaching 564 for four at the close of the third day of the second Test at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium.
Samuels profited being dropped on 117 by adding a record 326 runs for the third wicket with fellow century-maker Darren Bravo (127).
Bravo, who resumed on 85, completed his fourth before off-spinner Sohag Gazi trapped him lbw.
The Bravo-Samuels partnership bettered Chanderpaul and Ramdin's unbroken 296 in the previous Test in Dhaka. It is also West Indies' sixth-highest ever.
Samuels smacked 31 fours and three sixes in his 455-minute vigil at the crease.
After surviving a few more close calls, including a Shakib Al Hasan delivery that hit the stumps with the right-hander on 167, but bizarrely did not dislodge the bails, he reached the landmark figure flicking Rubel Hossain away for a single off his 329th delivery.
But the hours spent at the crease took its toll on the lucky 31-year-old Jamaican and a tired-looking shot off Rubel ended his knock with substitute fielder Elias Sunny completing the catch at point.
Before that Samuels had added a further 177 runs with Chanderpaul - the highest fourth-wicket stand for West Indies against Bangladesh and their fourth-highest stand for the fourth wicket in the subcontinent.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Ramdin was four not out with Chanderpaul, who compiled his second century in the series and 27th overall having notched up a career-best unbeaten 203 in the first Test which the Caribbeans won by 77 runs last week in Dhaka.
