Life ban on Mohammad Azharuddin illegal: Andhra Pradesh HC

Andhra Pradesh high court on Thursday termed the life ban imposed by the BCCI on former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin as illegal.

The court also said the ban imposed by the Indian Cricket Board on the former Indian captain was unsustainable by law.

Azhar was banned for life from playing all forms of cricket by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2000 for match-fixing.

Although, the BCCI had considered lifting the ban in 2006, the International Cricket Council had stepped in and claimed only the ICC had the jurisdiction to lift the ban.

Azharuddin had captained the Indian cricket team for much of the 1990s, until his ban and was one of the most successful Indian captains. He finished his career with 99 Tests.

My perception is Azhar is a simple god fearing person who is often grossly misunderstood.
It's welcome judgement from High Court. I hope we will come to see and hear more of Azhar on TV and other media in the days to come. Let BCCI give back all that was due to him.
