Highveld Lions pulled off a shock 22-run win over
Delhi Daredevils in the first semi-final of the Champions League
Twenty20 at Kingsmead in Durban on Thursday.
Apart from Kevin Pietersen's 50 off 44 balls with three fours and a six, most of the other Delhi batsmen could provide him support as they ended on 117-9 in 20 overs.
The Daredevils made a horrible start as they chased 140 runs, losing Virender Sehwag for a duck in the first over.
David Warner (21 off 18 balls) then tried to lift the run-rate but was brilliantly caught and bowled by Chris Morris.
But after Warner fell, Pietersen watched as a procession of Delhi batsmen came and went.
Unmukt Chand (9 in 20 balls), Irfan Pathan (1), Ross Taylor (1), Naman Ojha (7) and Pawan Negi (0) were dismissed as Delhi looked in danger of being bowled out for around 100.
Lions will now meet either Sydney Sixers or Titans, who play in the second semi-final at Centurion on Friday.
The final is in Johannesburg on Sunday.
Earlier, a half-century by Gulam Bodi helped Lions score 139 for five in 20 overs after they were put into bat.
The left-hander scored exactly 50 off 49 balls with four fours and a six. He added 59 runs for the fourth wicket with Neil McKenzie before Umesh Yadev had him caught by the keeper.
McKenzie was unbeaten on 46 off 28 balls. He struck four fours and a six.
Yadev finished with two wickets for 20 runs.
