West Indies have beaten Bangladesh by 77 runs

West Indies have beaten Bangladesh by 77 runs in the first Test of the two-match series played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

The second Test will start from Nov 21 at the Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.

The visitors packed off Bangladesh at 167 in their second innings following outstanding performances by Tino Best and Veerasammy Permaul. The match had burst open with possibilities for Bangladesh as spinner Shohag Gazi claimed nine wickets in his debut match with six in the second innings alone.

Bangladesh got the early blow when opener Tamim Iqbal threw away his wicket scoring only 5 runs. The visitors put Bangladesh under pressure by picking up the wicket of Junaid Siddiqui just before the end of the first session of day-5 at a total of 42.

West Indies took control over the match after Tino Best claimed Shahriar Nafees (23) and Shakib Al Hasan (2) in no time.

Best again struck by getting Mushfiqur Rahim (16) lbw at a time when the Bangladesh skipper was developing a partnership with first innings centurion Naeem Islam.

Bangladesh slipped into deep trouble as Veerasammy Permaul took the wicket of Nasir Hossain (21) and Shohag Gazi (19) soon.

The visitors started the day at 244 for the loss of six.

The 21-year-old off-spinner brought Bangladesh the day's first success by getting Darren Sammy (15) lbw. Possibility of a hat-trick was staring at Shohag as he got Rabi Rampal (5) and Tino Best (0) in two straight deliveries.

However, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who came to bat at number 11 following his illness, spoiled Shohag's party.

Their innings came to an end at 273 as Chanderpaul was taken lbw by Shohag.

Shohag is the best bowler for Bangladesh taking 6 wickets for 74 runs in his debut match. He becomes the fourth Bangladeshi to make a six-wicket haul in debut.

West Indies had declared their first innings at 527-4. In response, Bangladesh hammered 556 runs, taking a lead of 29 runs.
